Please note that following today’s government advice regarding Coronavirus, we have taken the decision to suspend all ringing activity with immediate effect at St Mary’s, St Michaels and Bitterne Park, until further notice.
There will be no ringing practice on Monday 14th March due to the tower AGM taking place, or on Monday 21st March due to Holy Week. We will make a decision shortly as to whether there will be a practice or a quarter peal on Easter Monday (28th March), please keep an eye on the calendar for updates.
We have decided to move a few practices around this month:
On Monday 9th November the practice has moved to St Mary’s, we will be ringing half-muffled to mark Armistice Day which is on the Wednesday of that week.
On Monday 16th November the practice will be at Bitterne Park as normal.
On Monday 23rd November there will be no practice, we will probably have a social event instead.
On Monday 30th November the practice will be at St Michael’s.
The normal schedule will resume at the beginning of December, watch the calendar on the home page for further updates.
As the Southampton Boat Show will be in full swing next week and parking will probably be even more limited than usual in the city centre, we have swapped the practice locations as follows:
Monday 14th September: St Mary’s
Monday 28th September: St Michael’s
The practice on Monday 21st September will stay at Bitterne Park as normal, and Sunday service ringing is also unaffected.
There will be no ringing practice on Monday 31st August since it is a bank holiday, so we’re having the night off! Back to business as usual on Sunday 6th September for service ringing at St Mary’s and then we will be at Bitterne Park on the 7th for the next practice.
Are you a bell ringer starting a course at Southampton University or Solent University this autumn? If so you’ll certainly want to join the legendary SUGCR, but you’d also be most welcome to come along to SCR practices as well! Many current members of SUGCR ring with us regularly, and indeed many members of the local Southampton band were previously members of SUGCR back in the dim and distant past!! We ring everything from rounds and call-changes all the way up to surprise royal and Stedman/Grandsire cinques. Our practices are on Mondays and alternate between three of the towers in the city, so have a look at the calendar on the home page to see where we’ll be next, and come along to say hello. We look forward to meeting you!
There will be no ringing practice at St Mary’s on Monday 30th March, as it is Holy Week. Service ringing on Easter Sunday (April 5th)
and the practice on Easter Monday (April 6th), both at Bitterne Park, will hopefully go ahead if there are enough people around.
UPDATE: there is also no ringing on Sunday 29th March
UPDATE: no practice on Easter Monday (April 6th)
Just a reminder that there is no practice in Southampton this coming Monday (26th May) due to the bank holiday.
Ringing as normal Sunday 25th at St Mary’s 9:45 – 10:30
Due to Holy Week and Easter Monday there is no practice in Southampton for the next two Mondays.
The next practice will be Monday 28th April at St Mary’s, 19:30-21:00.
Sunday morning ringing is unchanged, check the calendar for the location.
Please note that St Mary’s Southampton will be unavailable for any ringing between Monday 16th June and Sunday 27th July due to a period of planned tower maintenance including re-painting of the frame.
For locations of practices and Sunday morning ringing please check the calendar on the website
